Spray tanning involves applying an active ingredient, dihydroxyacetone (DHA), to your skin using a low pressure spraying machine. DHA is a colorless sugar and it interacts with the proteins and amino acids in the outer layer of your skin to produce a golden brown color. 

Most spray tans contain an instant cosmetic bronzer that gives you a color guide and instant color when you are first sprayed. These instant cosmetic bronzers will wash away after your first shower and have no impact on the end result of your tan. It’s not the amount of cosmetic bronzers that make the individual solutions darker from one another. It’s the amount of DHA in the solution that creates the varying results.

• Exfoliate & Moisturize 24 Hrs.  before your spray tan. Pay particular attention to elbows, knees, ankles, and any problem dry areas.
• Paint your nails and toenails.
• Wax/Shave 24-48 Hrs. prior to spray tan. Shaving any closer to your appointment time could result in the spray tan settling in your pores and looking spotty. If your razor has a moisturizing strip, rinse your legs very well or it will leave residue and cause your tan to be striped.
• 24 hours before your treatment avoid using bar soaps, high pH shower products or in shower moisturizers.
• Don’t apply moisturizer, perfume, deodorant or makeup the day of your spray tan.
• Remove jewelry
• Put on haircap, but leave ears and hairline exposed. 
• Apply blanding cream to hands and feet (including nails).

• Wear flip flops or loose fitting shoes. 

• Wear dark, loose clothing. Tight clothing or underwear may cause marks. Color may rub off on clothes, but usually washes out during a normal wash cycle. Bear in mind that any materials have the potential to stain.

• Avoid showering during the first 8 hours

• Your 1st Shower: Use plain water. Don’t use shower gels, scrubs, shampoos, loofahs, or exfoliate. Pat yourself dry.

• After your 1st shower, avoid using any shampoos or body washes that contain sulfate - it will strip your tan.

• Avoid sweating.

• Don’t exercise or swim within the first 8 Hrs.  after spray tan application. 

• Try not to touch your skin during the development time. 

• Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Morning and night. Only use spray tan approved moisturizers (mineral-oil free & formulated for sensitive skin). 

• Avoid beauty products containing fragrance & alcohol.
